Eighteen years in the national volleyball
team as one of the main figures, gold medals in the Olympic

performances in world championships and cups as well as in volleyball
grand prix tournaments are some of her presentation cards.
Merely at the age of 14 she took part in a senior national championship
and she turned out to be the best attacker owing to her immense
jumping power, which allowed her to reach at that time the height
of 3.05 m (10 feet).
She was born in Camaguey on August 25th, 1967 and her ascension
was so quick that at the age of 17 she had already had her first
appearance in the international arena obtaining the title in
the Pan-american Games of Caracas.
From then on, her name was known everywhere particularly in
Asia where she was deeply admired.
In 1986 she gave birth to her first child and less than three
weeks after the labor she played in the World Championship of
Prague and her team won the silver medal.
The captain of the "Morenas del Caribe" (Caribbean
browns) enjoyed herself and made the crowds cheer of emotion.
Her demonic attacks took her straight to glory without a single
bit of vanity in her.
Fairly selected among the most outstanding athletes of the 20th
century, when she finally said good-bye to volleyball practice,
she immediately integrated the athlete commission of the international
Olympic Committee following a proposal of Juan Antonio Samaranch.
Quickly she adhered to the Olympic Solidarity Commission.
She has received numberless decorations in Cuba and abroad.
Nowadays she forms part of the highest sport organ in Cuba as
vice-president of the national commission of attention to athletes.
