No other woman in the whole world has ever
gone deeper than her in the marine depths. No one like this
beautiful-eyed blonde displays such a curriculum vitae in sport,
with 15 absolute world records of immersion in apnea.
During twelve years, she was part of the national synchronized
swimming where she established her position as individual champion.
After the Pan-american Games Havana'91, she retired for the
first time, but another door opened when she achieved a 98 ft.
immersion.
Such was her enthusiasm for the new discipline, that the following
year she went for the deepest mark and achieved an immersion
of 190 ft. which surpassed the world record of the Italian Roxana
Mallorca, sister of Enzo, another great in the risky discipline.
Those who witnessed her hard work know of this woman sacrifices
and privations to train with endurance and will in the deep
waters by the Colony Hotel, in the Isle of Youth, where Débora
suffered in 1996 a car crash that put in danger her future as
an immersionist.
The efforts of the medical team that assisted her and her own
will where stronger than the serious injuries. That is why,
life smiled at her again and she challenged herself over and
over again.
Ernesto, her son, is undoubtedly her best trophy. Barely a few
months old, he was already in the sea by his mother. That world
has started to be his too and we hope he follows in the footsteps
of his mother, who intends to open and run an institute devoted
to sub-aquatic world in the isle of youth and to that end she
has received the support of the authorities of the Ministry
of Tourism.
